Competitor pricing tracking without spreadsheet drift

A practical system for detecting competitor price and packaging changes, preserving Evidence, and turning material moves into action.

Track decisions, not pixels

A useful pricing monitor captures the commercial decision implied by a page change. A new headline or reordered feature grid is not automatically a pricing move. Record the package, affected buyer segment, published price or entitlement, observed Source, and confidence before forwarding a Signal.

  • Separate copy edits from real packaging, entitlement, or price changes.
  • Capture monthly versus annual billing and any usage assumptions.
  • Keep observed dates and Source URLs attached to every claim.
  • Escalate only changes that sales, PMM, or product can act on.

Establish a defensible baseline

Start with the competitor's official pricing page and the pages that define plan entitlements, trials, and enterprise qualification. Save the current state before looking for changes. The baseline prevents a team from treating an old package difference as a new market move.

  • List every public package and its buyer segment.
  • Record visible prices, limits, trials, and contact-sales gates.
  • Note which details are absent or ambiguous instead of guessing.

What belongs in the weekly review

The weekly Digest should summarize pricing moves that changed buyer perception, competitive differentiation, or sales response. Everything else can remain in the Evidence ledger until it repeats or becomes material. This keeps a routine review useful instead of turning it into a page-diff archive.

  • Lead with the verified change and affected segment.
  • Explain the likely impact without presenting interpretation as fact.
  • Name the sales, PMM, or product owner who should decide the response.

Use critical Alerts sparingly

A price increase, free-plan launch, or major feature move may deserve an automatic critical Alert. A punctuation fix does not. Apply the same Evidence and confidence gates before sending, then deduplicate repeated reporting of the same commercial decision.

How Quadrant helps

Quadrant monitors permitted public Sources for named competitors, records changed Evidence, and promotes material claims into Signals. The weekly Digest preserves review cadence while automatic critical Alerts cover high-confidence changes that should reach the team sooner.
